A self-taught artist and entrepreneur, Melanie Royals has developed a reputation as a leading innovator and educator in the art of stenciling and decorative painting.

As the founder and creative force behind Royal Design Studio, Melanie shares her vast experience, ideas, and passion for paint through numerous television appearances, books, instructional videos, website, and workshops offered at the finest teaching studios throughout the country.

Melanie has pioneered many looks and decorative treatments with stencils that have become industry staples, such as free-form stenciling and stencil embossing.  The Extraordinary Stenciled Effects program that Melanie developed is taught throughout the country and through a video and book series-helping many decorative painters to introduce sophisticated stenciled finishes into their portfolios and discover hidden talents within themselves.

The author of Trompe L'oeil Murals Using Stencils, Melanie's newest book entitled, Painted Illusions: Creating Trompe L'oeil Effects with Stencils is due out in July 2004.

Melanie has recently introduced another new concept for the creation and application of decorative design and pattern: Modello Designs Decorative Masking Patterns.  Modello Designs offers a completely custom option for decorative painters: Custom designs, custom sized and cut to order from a wide variety of material options.  These adhesive patterns open up a new world of design, technique, and surface possibilities.

Melanie's presentation, "Scaling the Fifth Wall" will incorporate the ways in which both Modellos and traditional stencils can be used for quick application and maximum artistic interpretation.
